Reclaiming Narratives: A Black Resistance

Future Black Female along with the City of St. Catharines, St. Catharines Downtown Association, FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre and various Community Partners are excited to present another rich Black History Month that will feature programming throughout Downtown St. Catharines highlighting local Black artists and culture.

This year’s theme Reclaiming Narratives: A Black Resistance highlights Black voices, Black stories of resilience, resistance, success, and cultural pride, and aims to reclaim stolen legacies, ensuring Black voices are heard and honoured.

FEB 3 – FEB 28: CITY HALL, CENTRAL LIBRARY & PAC ART EXHIBITION

Where: St. Catharines City Hall – 50 Church St., St. Catharines

Cost: FREE

Celebrate art created by DSBN Kindergarten students.

Explore art created by Black artists in Niagara that highlight themes of resistance and pride.

FEB 8: 3RD ANNUAL VARIETY SHOW: ONSTAGE: A BLACK HISTORY MONTH VARIETY SHOW + BLACKOWNED905 MARKET

 

Time: 4 p.m.

Where: FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre – 250 St. Paul St., St. Catharines

Cost: Pay-What-You-Can, including FREE

Enjoy a night of talent, featuring performances from our vibrant community. Presented in partnership with Future Black Female, BlackOwned905 & The St. Catharines Downtown Association.

FEB 14: BLACK GIRLS YOUTH CONFERENCE: “BEYOND THE CLASSROOM – YOUR PATH, YOUR POWER”

Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Where: White Oaks Conference Resort and Spa – 253 Taylor Rd, Niagara-on-the-Lake

A day-long conference empowering Black female youth aged 14–22 to own their education and career journeys.

FEB 22: YOUTH FILM SCREENING: “SISTER ACT”

 

Time: 3 p.m.

Where: The Film House @ FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre – 250 St. Paul St., St. Catharines

Enjoy this family-friendly classic with a message of resilience and community.
