Her Seat At The Table:
Towards Economic Emancipation For Black Girls & Women!

This event is part of our Her Seat at the Table series, under Future Black Female’s WAGE-sponsored Black Women’s Economic Security (BWES) Project. We are collaborating with Invest Ottawa as we work towards the economic empowerment of Black girls and women. As a champion of Future Black Female and a strong voice for women’s rights and advancement in Canada, we feel this occasion would not be the same without you. We have long desired to do more in Canada’s capital, which is really your terrain. Your presence would not only underscore the importance of governmental leadership in this space but also acknowledge and affirm the lived realities of many of the young women we serve.

The featured panel will focus on the persistent and intersecting barriers Black women face, including housing, youth unemployment, entrepreneurship challenges, and the need for collective action. These themes are strongly reflected in the findings from our BWES National Prosperity Survey, which informs the call for action in this vital conversation.

Future Black Female, with head offices in St Catharines, Niagara Region, would like to acknowledge the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement. Today, the home to many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples is home to us too. We acknowledge the sacrifices made, forced and freely, by the Indigenous peoples of Canada in the formation of the country we call our home. As we acknowledge their continued contributions and their presence and ours upon this land, we are committed to being responsive to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and to our relationship with Indigenous peoples.
