Her Seat at the Table: Shifting the Landscape, from Data to Effective Policy

Future Black Female (FBF) is proud to host yet another installment of Her Seat at the Table, this time themed Shifting the Landscape: From Data to Effective Policy, in collaboration with Brock University.

This roundtable convening builds on the momentum of FBF’s Black Youth Prosperity Survey, launched one year ago to better understand the barriers Black girls and women face in achieving economic participation and security. The survey centered race-based and gender-based experiences to generate evidence that reflects the lived realities of Black youth and women. Data that has long been missing or overlooked in policy conversations.

Now, we move from insight to action.

With the findings in hand, Her Seat at the Table: Shifting the Landscape creates space for meaningful dialogue focused on translating data into informed, practical, and impactful policy solutions. This round table will bring together community leaders, researchers, educators, policymakers, and advocates to engage in critical discussions around the key themes that emerged from the survey and explore pathways toward systemic change.

What to Expect

  • Facilitated roundtable discussions grounded in findings from the Black Youth Prosperity Survey

  • Collective analysis of structural barriers impacting Black girls’ and women’s economic participation

  • Dialogue focused on policy relevance, accountability, and actionable solutions

  • Opportunities to connect across sectors and contribute to shaping equity-informed responses

This event is designed not only to share data, but to activate it, centering community-informed perspectives in conversations that influence decision-making, policy development, and long-term systems change.

Future Black Female, with head offices in St Catharines, Niagara Region, would like to acknowledge the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement. Today, the home to many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples is home to us too. We acknowledge the sacrifices made, forced and freely, by the Indigenous peoples of Canada in the formation of the country we call our home. As we acknowledge their continued contributions and their presence and ours upon this land, we are committed to being responsive to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and to our relationship with Indigenous peoples.
