FBF Black Girl Summer Summer Retreat! Ages 16-22

The FBF Black Girl Summer Retreat is a five-workshop empowerment experience designed to equip young women (ages 16–22) with creative, wellness, and self-expression tools that build confidence, a strong sense of identity, and leadership skills. Through hands-on workshops, mentorship, and community-building activities, the retreat will help participants explore their passions, develop essential life skills, and celebrate their unique identities.

MEET THE WORKSHOP FACILITATORS


Tamika Nash, Certified Esthetician & Owner, Tranquil Radiance Esthetics.


Tamika Nash is a certified esthetician and the owner of Tranquil Radiance Esthetics. She holds diplomas in Business and Esthetics & Spa Operations, along with advanced skincare certifications specializing in skin of colour.

 

She has professional experience working at two highly rated spas—Gratitude Skincare in St. Catharines and the Christienne Fallsview Spa in Niagara Falls—where she helped clients achieve their skincare goals through customized treatments and routines tailored to their needs.

 

Her passion for inclusive skincare education was born from her own struggles with skin health and the lack of resources for Black skin. Now, she’s dedicated to helping others build knowledge, feel empowered, and glow confidently in their skincare journey.


SKINCARE & WELLNESS WORKSHOP: Understanding Your Skin and Building Healthy Habits by Tamika Nash

This empowering two-hour workshop is designed specifically for young Black girls and women (ages 16–22) who want to understand their skin and take control of their skincare journey. Through a mix of engaging presentation and interactive discussion, attendees will learn how to identify their skin type, build a skincare routine tailored to their needs, and understand how skincare ties into overall health and wellness.


We’ll break down skincare myths, talk about products and treatments that actually work for skin of colour, and explore how to develop healthy habits that support glowing skin from the inside out. Attendees will leave with a free downloadable skincare guide, a personalized skincare routine worksheet, and the confidence to make educated decisions about their skin.

Patience Kyebitondo is a dedicated professional with a background in Social Work, Administration, and Sexual and Reproductive Health. With years of experience managing community development and youth-focused projects, she has always been passionate about empowering others.

DESIGN WORKSHOP : Bringing Vision From Head To Paper by Patience Kyebitondo

In this hands-on creative session, “Design: Bringing Vision from Head to Paper,” youth will explore their unique fashion ideas through sketching, vision mapping, led by fashion designer Patience Kyebitondo, this workshop is designed to ignite imagination, build confidence, and introduce the foundations of fashion illustration.


Through this dynamic and empowering session, girls will leave with imaginative mind to create, and expressive voice through fashion. Specializing in custom-made bridal, prom, business, and party outfits. She blends her commitment to impact with her love for design—bringing stories to life through fashion.



Sharifah Weir, Photographer, Content Creator.

 

Sharifah Weir, also known as "She Shot That", is a Toronto- GTA-Niagara based photographer and content creator. Specializing in portraiture, branding, wedding and food photography.


Growing up in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), in the 90’s was an exciting time for Sharifah. The, shy bright eyed, curious little girl was exposed to a multitude of beautiful cultures and compelling stories including from her own Jamaican immigrant family. She fell in love with the art of story telling in elementary school. This love followed Sharifah throughout her life in form

of writing, poetry, art, design even nursing and for the past 6 years, photography.


Her passion for the art of photography lies beneath taking and delivering photos. Sharifah has a deep appreciation for the phenomenology of people and the strives to capture images that emote what is not said, images worth more than words

 

MORE THAN WORDS WORKSHOP by Sharifah Weir

PURPOSE: “A confidence boosting session where participants celebrate themselves, practice self-love , and learn about visual storytelling

and digital identity.”

 

AGENDA

INTRODUCTION:

  • An introduction to the Photographer and Workshop Goals.

  • The facilitator will share examples of images of

  • Black Women that reflect, identity, individualism and personal storytelling.


MINI MOOD BOARD CREATION:

  • Participants will curate a physical mood board to organize ideas and elements from previous workshop days that they would like to capture in their Photoshoot.

 

PHOTOSHOOT!

  • Participants will indulge in a confidence boosting photoshoot celebrating identity and self love.

Lisa Johnson is a multidisciplinary creative professional with over ten years of experience in digital strategy, web development, and brand storytelling. With a strong background in both front-end and back-end development, Lisa combines technical expertise with artistic vision to create digital experiences that are engaging and impactful.


She is passionate about using design as a tool for empowerment and incorporates this philosophy into every workshop, website, design, and campaign she develops.

Recognized for her ability to simplify complex ideas into accessible and creative solutions, Lisa has led digital projects across various industries, hosted interactive design workshops, and built platforms that amplify voices and inspire action. Her work is driven by a firm belief in the power of visual identity, self-expression, and community-centered innovation.

Unleash your creativity and design a magazine cover that truly represents you! In this hands-on workshop led by professional web and graphic designer Lisa Johnson, participants will use photos taken during the camp's photo shoot to create bold, customized magazine covers with Canva.


You'll learn the fundamentals of graphic design, photo editing, and visual storytelling while exploring the power of personal branding. This session is all about celebrating your identity, building confidence, and transforming your story into a stunning visual piece.
